The University of Szeged has a widespread network of relations throughout the world. Due to its extended foreign relations, the institution also serves as an international meeting point; as it is annually chosen by nearly 2,000 students from other countries. Since 1985, foreign language programs have been available for those who seek high quality education. The number of foreign students, who can choose from programs at three different levels (BA/BSc, MA/MSc, PhD), has risen by 20 % during the previous years. As a result of the widening spectrum of its programs, the University of Szeged attracts more and more foreign students from a wide range of countries throughout the world; in 2010 students came to the institution from 39 different countries.
The unique infrastructural development contributed towards the success of teaching at the University of Szeged. As a result of this development, a university campus, the Attila József Study and Information Centre (TIK), receiving 5,000 visitors daily, was completed in 2004. The building houses the University Library with some 2 million titles, a Conference Centre, lecture halls and student services – it is a meeting point for university students and professors where learning is supported by high tech. With its rooms used for social life and learning/teaching and its events, TIK (rated by OPEC as one of the world’s most important educational investments in 2005) has become a centre of scientific and cultural life of both the university and the town of Szeged. In fact, the Attila József Study and Information Centre is an impressive place where the University of Szeged may deliver its regional mission to support, in addition to education, scientific and artistic life.
Maybe the most outstanding university investment of recent years is the spectacular reconstruction of the building of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the extension to the I. Biology Block of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Information Technology. As a result of the construction work finished in the summer of 2007, the new facility provides the most advanced and complex conditions for teaching and applied research.
