Description of the programme: The first two years serve as the foundation of basic clinical practice, where students also take part in the work of clinical departments and teaching hospitals. The Faculty's excellent scientific laboratories offer the students a wide range of opportunities to join high standard scientific research activities. In the medical knowledge. From the third year on theoretical training is extended to include last two semesters - the internship/clerkship year - students take part in clinical rotations of 40 weeks in certain disciplines: surgery, internal medicine, psychiatry, neurology, paediatrics and gynaecology. The internships/rotations are concluded with a comprehensive examination in each subject. Furthermore, candidates need to submit and defend their theses (doctoral dissertations). At the end the of clerkship year a complex comprehensive examination – the State Board Examination – must be taken. Having fulfilled all requirements, candidates are awarded the Doctor of Medicine degree. The degree is accepted in several countries around the world. Citizens of the EU will receive their licences automatically within the Community. Furthermore, all graduates are entitled to participate in the US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Interesting facts: Medical training at the University of Szeged was launched nearly 30 years ago. In the academic year 2013/2014 almost 50% of medical students study in the foreign language programmes.

Application procedure

• Applicants are required to sit for an entrance examination. Holders of the following degrees can be exempted from sitting for the entrance examination on condition that they have completed their studies with excellent results:
• IB (International Baccalaureate) Applicants need to have achieved at least grade 5 in the following subjects: English and two natural sciences subjects (biology, chemistry or physics)
• GCE (General Certificate of Education) A or A+ level with an A result in 3 natural sciences subjects
• B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) Degree in Natural, Biomedical, Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Physics
• Main application requirements: Successful completion of high school; oral and written competence in biology, chemistry and English language which is to be proved as part of the entrance examination. • Application fee: 200 USD
• Registration fee: 220 USD
• Annual tuition fee: 15 400 USD (years 1- 5), 7700 USD (year 6 - students are entitled to spend half of their sixth year practice at the university' hospitals. If a student would like to accomplish more than half of the internship at the university, the fee has to be paid on a pro rata basis).
