Degree: D.M.D – Doctor Medicinae Dentariae
Duration of the course: 10 semesters
Language of tuition: English
Description of the programme: The Dental Medicine Programme covers five academic years. The degree is accepted in several countries around the world. Citizens of the EU will receive their licences automatically within the Community. Ours was the first dental faculty in Hungary where a new, EU-compatible curriculum was introduced in the 2013/14 academic year, to suit European standards. In the first two years the students are taught basic sciences - general medical and dental courses - which are the foundations of clinical dentistry. From the second year on more emphasis is placed on the study of dental diseases and their treatment. The programme is designed to combine the basic and the clinical sciences, as it is believed that scientific and professional development cannot be sharply separated but should proceed concurrently throughout the programme. After the third year (pre-clinical module) the last two years serve the intensive clinical study of each discipline of dentistry with emphasis on the assessment and management of patients. Throughout their training students can participate in elective programs, conferences and hospital-based practices. Furthermore, they need to defend their thesis and sit for a complex comprehensive examination – the State Board Examination. Having fulfilled all requirements, candidates are awarded the Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. The language of tuition is English. However, in order to fully accomplish clinical practice, certain proficiency in the Hungarian language is also necessary.
