The German Legal Training has started twelve years ago and it has been growing and developing since then. Due to this, more than 200 law students have acquired law and professional language knowledge. In the course of lectures and practical courses on the one hand the professors of The University of Potsdam, on the other hand the Hungarian and German lecturers of the University of Szeged help students in acquiring the knowledge of the syllabus.
The students of the German Legal Training, who have attained their graduate degree, may apply for the German Legal and German Legal Translator Postgraduate Programme (hereinafter: Programme). Those students, who have accomplished the Programme with excellent achievements, have the chance to attain – after two semesters – the LL.M degree of the University of Potsdam.
STRUCTURE OF THE TRAINING AND PROGRAMME
The Training lasts four semesters. Participants of the Training can get familiarized with the German legal system and attain a thorough, high-level knowledge in the field of German language, especially in the field of legal language. All semesters include lectures and practice oriented seminars. Upon successful completion of all classes students have to write and defend a Final Thesis in German language.
The Programme lasts for two years. All semesters include lectures and translation oriented seminars. Upon successful completion of all classes students have to write and defend a Final Translating Thesis. The thesis includes translations from both German to Hungarian and Hungarian to German. Students have to defend their thesis before an examination board.
Those students who have entered the Programme after the completion of the Training may apply for credit recognition up to 40% of the credits earned on the Training.

Lectures of the Training include: Introduction to Civil Law; Introduction to Criminal Law; Introduction to Labour Law; Law Relating to Economical Offences.
Seminars of the Training include: Introduction to the German Law; State Administration Law; Company Law; Introduction to Public Law; Method of Scientific Research; German Language Skills; German Legal Seminars.
Lectures of the Programme include: Civil Law; Constitutional Law; European Law; Criminal Law; Commercial and Company Law; Labour Law; Public Administration Law; Law Relating to Economical Offences.
Seminars of the Programme include: Introduction to the German Law; Method of Scientific Research; Case Law; German Language Skills; Drafting Legal Documents; Introduction to the Theory of Legal Translation; Computer-Assisted Translation; Translation of Documents in Social Sciences and Administration; Translation of Political Documents and Statutes; Translation of Business Documents and Contracts.
Application and Admission
To apply, please return the application form available on the website of the Institute of Comparative Law. The admission to the trainings depends upon the successful completion of an oral entrance exam. The admission is conditional on prior successful completion of two semesters in their university studies.
The tuition fee of the Training is HUF 70.000.- per semester. The tuition fee of the Programme is HUF 90.000.- per semester.
Those students, who finish the Training’s three semesters successfully, receive a certificate which is awarded by the leaders of the training (The Faculty of law, University of Szeged and the University of Potsdam).
Those students, who finish the Programme successfully, may graduate as German Legal Translators.
